Make sure your developers are utilising web standards (and HTML5)

Developers can and should utilise a set of defined best practises known as web standards when creating websites. A group made up of the top search engines and all significant browser manufacturers wrote the standards.

We can think of newspapers to help non-developers understand web standards: the front page of a newspaper is usually reserved for breaking news, while the back page is usually reserved for sports news. It is not required to be this way by any law or governing body.

Instead, newspaper readers have grown accustomed to it and it is a practise that newspaper publishers generally follow.

Getting your developers to create websites using web standards is mostly done so that the content on our websites:

Consistently displays across all browsers (old and new, desktop and mobile)

Search engines are able to fully crawl and index it, which improves rankings.

Can benefit from the new features being added to HTLM5, the web's most comprehensive web standard.
